“No problem” Glover says. “How’d Psychic class go?” I shake my head. “It was kinda cool I guess, the teacher caught me taking notes, so he made my notebook levitate.” Glover gives a dumbfounded look. “Really? That’s exciting compared to what we did in Fire, we just shared what our favorite fire Pokémon were. Took all class, I can’t even make that up, man.” As I nod, I pull out the folded up flyer from my pocket. Glover seems to have noticed, so he asks. “Dude, you’ve been looking at that thing since lunch, what the hell is it?” He snatches the flyer from my hands, but I don’t try to fight back. “It’s a rock show with a bunch of amateur bands. The owner of the music store in town gave it to me.”
Glover looks at me for a moment, then back at the flyer, then back to me. “You’re planning to ask Sheena out, aren’t you?” My face goes hot. “We should switch electives, you take Psychic, I’ll take Fire, yeah? That’s too good for a guess!” He just shrugs and starts counting on his fingers as he speaks up again. “You asked her what her favorite bands were during breakfast, you’ve been taking peeks at her whenever you could, you admitted you liked her during gym-”
“Okay, okay, I get your goddamned point.” I sigh. “Yes, I’m planning to ask her out. The problem is asking her out without coming off a complete tool.” Glover just pats my back. “You’ll be fine, Strings. You know the old saying right?”
I hang my head as I nod. “There’s plenty of fish in the sea. I know. It’s just, I feel like I can’t let this one get away, y’know? I’m not looking for a ‘wham, bam, thank you, ma’am’ kinda thing, I think I can make this work. Like, holy shit, she lools like heaven, and with the her musical tastes, I feel like we’ve been best friends since we were eleven… oh my God, I like her.”
“Yeah, I know you like her. It wasn’t hard to figure out.” Glover just laughs. “Dude, it’s not the end of the world, chill out, man.” The problem is, I can’t. It’s really hard to relax when those Butterfrees in your stomach won’t stop fluttering. This is rare - I haven’t been this strung out over a girl in a long time. I remember the joint I rolled up earlier, but I look at Lillith and don’t dare move for the door. I just lay my head on the table and place my hands over my head.
